DCW220NT 18V Belt Sander

The Why!

I had a mains powered Titan Belt Sander, it was absolutely fine but I was getting fed up of the cable snagging all the time and it wasn't always convenient to plug in at a customers property, especially when working outside.

I went for DeWalt as I already have other kit from DeWalt and means I can share batteries and it's a brand, on the whole, I have no issues with.

So what's in the box?

This is what they call the 'Naked' edition, which basically means no batteries. Which was fine with me as I have plenty of batteries.

In the T-Stak Case there is;

  • The DCW220NT Belt Sander
  • Dust Bag
  • Starter sand belts

The base of the box has a moulded section to hold the sander in place. I found this inconvenient as it took up quite a bit of space and made it difficult to keep spare belts in with it, so I took it out.

Using it

First Impressions

I was quite surprised. I took it out of the box and even without a battery in it felt solid, not heavy, but gave you the impression it would be robust and survive some hard use.

Day to day use

I have had this for over a year now and would not replace it with anything else. I personally believe it is as effective as my old electric one and far more convenient.

Whether you're sanding a worktop or just adjusting a sticky door I find it does the job.

Dust Extraction

The extractor connector can rotate which is useful depending on how close you are working to a wall etc.

It also comes with a dust collector bag which can be useful for smaller jobs but can get in the way. I tend to use my Henry Hoover with the DeWalt DWV9000-XJ Universal Adapter attached. I just cut off the end of the Henry hose and this threaded stright on.

Conclusion

  • Its good, solid and robust
  • I love it, it does what I need it to do and packs quite a bit of power for a cordless belt sander
  • I have had no issues
  • Recommend you treat yourself to the universal adaptor if using it for longer periods of time
